Portraits - Over the ages one of the great artistic challenges has been rendering the likeness of a specific person. Bernini made his fortune sculpting both grand and smaller works, including any number of marble busts of popes, cardinals, and the occaisional head of state. Michaelangelo declined portrait commisions. This is a project I have undertaken on a smaller scale, working in both clay and marble.
Figurative - Since ancient times, man has strived to recreate or even improve upon the human form in marble and bronze. The Greeks learned to study the human body and reproduce what they saw, and later to exaggerate aspects of the body to express movement and emotion in hard stone. Artists today still study the human form and strive to recreate it in painting, sculpture, or even digitally.
