Luna de la noche (1)
Luna de la Noche is a sleek black abstract figurative sculpture carved from black Irish marble. My goal was to create an abstract sculpture emphasizing the beautiful curves of a slender woman. Since I was carving in a black marble, I realized at the outset that I would be sanding the piece to a very high luster. In doing so, I discovered some crescentic white fossils in this piece - marble is formed from coral laid down millennia ago and often has fossil inclusions. The white crescents reminded me of moons against the dark black stone, hence the name.
