STONE SCULPTURE
In the summer of 1996 my wife and I were vacationing with our two young sons in Vancouver Island. During the trip we visited a local sculptor whose work was inspired by the rich natural habitats in that part of the world. He collected his own marble in nature and he told me exactly where. The next day we went there to see. There were many brown, dirty stones on the ground. I picked up one and broke it against another bigger rock. Sure enough, the inside revealed a beautiful marble stone. I took it home and quickly connected with a local stone sculptor who gave me several lessons to get get me started. When I held my first completed piece, there was more than a sense of accomplishment, there was a feeling that this small sculpture would last for generations to be admired by others even after I was gone. In short, I was hooked.

A JOURNEY OF STONE VARIETIES
After completing two pieces in Vancouver marble I had run out of stone. I needed to find another source. An online search led me to Myles Schacter at 2sculpt.com. Myles is a sculptor and a stone supplier who travels to different quarries around the world in search of different beautiful stones suitable for sculpting. He then arranges for thousands of pounds of stone to be shipped back home. On a very personal and individualized basis, he will send you what you need.
